Our School Board: Governance with Heart
At St Leonards School, like in all New Zealand schools, our Board is the "big picture" team. While our Principal and staff manage the day-to-day magic in the classrooms, the Board is responsible for the overall governance, strategy, and financial health of the school.
Guided by the Education and Training Act 2020, our primary focus is always the same: ensuring every student at St Leonards has the support, resources, and environment they need to reach their highest potential.
What We Do
Think of the Board as the guardians of the school's future. Our key responsibilities include:
-
Setting the Direction: We work with the parent community to create the school’s Strategic Plan.
-
Ensuring Achievement: We monitor student progress to ensure our teaching and learning programs are delivering the best results for our tamariki.
-
Policy & Safety: We maintain the "rule book" (policies) that keeps our school safe, inclusive, and legally compliant—including our commitment to the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
-
Te Tiriti o Waitangi: We ensure the school honors te Tiriti o Waitangi by supporting Māori educational success and incorporating te reo and tikanga Māori into school life.
-
Financial Stewardship: We oversee the school budget to ensure every dollar is spent where it matters most—on our students' education.
Representation
Our Board is made up of elected parent representatives, a staff representative, and our Principal. We are committed to transparency and open communication, ensuring that the voice of our community is at the heart of every decision we make.
